Investment project code: 138
The aim of the project is to improve digital awareness and ability in an increasingly digital - dependent world. This will reduce poverty and social isolation in a rural area. We know that fuel poverty is a problem in this area due to low incomes and lack of public transport. We can alleviate this by delivering training locally. This project will bridge gaps in provision across geographic areas. We provide our own equipment, up to date laptops and tablet devices. Desktop facility is also available in the training room. Working in partnership with Lifelong Learning and a number of other Third Sectore and other organisations, supported drop in sessions in Dalbeattie and New Galloway will help people of all ages and abilities get to grips with technology in a non-threatening environment and supportive atmosphere. This improved confidence and well-being will reduce rural and social isolation and allow people to improve their finances whether by progressing into employment or by claiming benefits online. The move to this has caused difficulties for many people, particularly for those claiming Universal Credit. People will get help with job searching and applying for jobs online, CV writing, Universal Credit applications and maintaining their journal within it, accessing information about their local community and how they can contribute and take part, accessing public services and comparison sites to reduce outgoings. It will also help with information such as cooking on a budget and financial planning. It will allow people to connect with friends and family and see how they can benefit from using technology in daily life.
